So, I wrote a blog a few days ago referring to Scott and I getting Bryleigh her first pet, a Beta fish. I also mentioned in that blog that the reason we were going with that type of species was the "long life" they were suppose to have. Everything we read said that Beta fish were easy to care for, required little maintenance and usually lived a couple of years. PERFECT! As, like I said earlier, was not ready to have to explain to my 4 year old, why her beloved pet was going to "sewer heaven"!
Well...that is SO NOT TRUE!!! Let me explain....
Our trip to the pet store went as planned...Bryleigh was very excited to get a real fish and couldn't wait to pick it out. Upon arriving in the fish section of this particular store she immediately went for a fish. The one she picked out was blue with a reddish tail...very pretty...and very much a Beta. We then proceeded to get all the required "goodies" for the fish...a tank, food, etc.....
We finally got home and got everything set up and "Bubbles", our male Beta, was swimming happily in his new home...everyone was happy. Until the next morning, when Scott woke up and found our new pet bottoms up in the tank....GEEZ!!!! What luck we have...
Scott quickly removed the fish from the tank and told Bryleigh that he thought he was looking a little sick and needed to go to the doctor. Our plan was that he would go back to the pet store and get a new fish, and waalaa...no harm, no foul.
And it worked! Bryleigh was happy to see Bubbles back home that afternoon...perky as ever! Well...the second day of Bubbles 2, we will call him, life...he too was bottoms up in the tank! Really? Can this be happening to us again? What are we doing wrong? How are we going to explain this again? Why did I think a fish would be a good pet?
So...again Scott goes to the pet store where they tell him it is not our fault...probably just the fish, buy maybe we should try another species...so we did...Scott brought home three Petra fish...really pretty...gold and black. Bryleigh was excited to have more fish and was quick to forget Bubbles and name her new pets Tiger, Jake, and Madison. I know...pretty out there, but we like to think our 4 year old has a great imagination!!!
We are on day two and they seem to be doing good...keep your fingers crossed!
Bryleigh's birthday went fantastic...Thanks to all who were here and made her day special...Pictures will be coming soon...check back!
