Now for those of you who know my family a seven day adventure anywhere is a feat in itself. Several years ago my dad imposed a "72 hour Rule". This rule states that my mother and I can't be around each other for more than 72 hours without all hell breaking loose and this FULL SEVEN DAY vacation was sooo breaking that rule! When this was brought up after booking the trip, mom and I looked at each other and said..."It will be fine...right?....of course it will...nothing to worry about."
Well those few months flew by and the day came to hit the road. We decided to save everyone booku bucks and drive the 12 hours to GS, AL and in doing this it was decided that we would leave at 2:00 AM on Saturday morning so that the kids would sleep the majority of the way and we would get there early afternoon...or so we thought.
The alarms went off at 1:30 and those of us who slept a meager 2 hours hit the floor running. We had loaded everything up the night before so all we had to do was grab a few last minute items and the kids, of course.
Well...the 12 hour trip turned into more like 14 hours because we had to stop every hour it seemed like. We stopped in Alexandria, LA for breakfast and then grabbed snacks for lunch. We finally made it to our house at 4:00 PM and boy were we happy to be there. All in all it wasn't that bad...the kids did GREAT! Thank the sweet Lord for duel screen DVD players!!!
The week was wonderful. Relaxing. Stress Free. Amazing. Beautiful. You get the picture...and I might add FIGHT FREE!!! Whoot! Whoot! Now, don't get me wrong there were some bickers here and there, but that is bound to happen with 12 people in a house. Overall, I say it was a successful seven days and mom and I deserve pats on the back!
Whatever 72 Hour Rule...pssst.
We all enjoyed ourselves and did some pretty cool things! The guys went deep sea fishing two days, the girls enjoyed a spa day, the kids went to Alligator Alley, which needs a post all unto itself, and rode go karts, everyone caught crabs by flashlight at night and jellyfish by day!
So here's to Gulf Shores, AL! It was a blast and we will be seeing you again!
**There are a TON of pictures from the week, but here are a few we liked!**
